Christmas Trivia

On Thursday 1st December, 34 trivia buffs (and semi-buffs) tested their knowledge of Christmas at Wallsend District Library’s annual trivia morning.

The room was beautifully decorated with Christmas bush, a Christmas tree, some traditional decorations, and lots of Santas. Our festive morning tea included fruit cake, stollen, pfeffernüsse, chocolates, wafer sticks, and Christmas M&Ms.

Our wonderful Local Studies section provided some old advertisements, which we put together in a slide show, to help anyone having trouble finding that special gift for someone on their list, or as ideas for their own wish list. Anyone for some sanitized tape worms as an alternative to dieting?

In between rounds, we had some fun with guessing competitions and prizes, and at the end, after our tricky song round, the winner of each round came out to play Christmas Celebrity Back (where the names of Christmas notables were taped to the contestants’ backs).

We had two lucky door prizes, and one very clear overall winner, although the positions only varied, in some cases, by a quarter of a point!

Santa came to visit, handing out lollies, and leading everyone in a rousing rendition of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

The winner of our writing competition (Tell us about your most memorable Christmas) was an autistic boy’s amazing book about when Doctor Who came to visit for Christmas.

Each participant received a copy of a recipe book, contributed to by our patrons and staff.

We had a very fun morning, and it is extrememly gratifying to have such an amazing response from our patrons, who not only support our events, but throw themselves into them with enthusiasm.

Sounds like it was fun! If only I could have been there.

What a great idea. Sounds like such fun, a great way to interact with library supporters. Congrats. Hope it happens again for Christmas 2012
